Neighbourhood

Set in the hillside village of Sebatu, north of Ubud, Ulu Valley Retreat sits within one of Bali’s most quietly beautiful regions.

The surrounding landscape is shaped by rice terraces, forested valleys, and traditional villages where daily life continues much as it always has. Just minutes away, the sacred springs of Sebatu and Tirta Empul remain an important part of Balinese spiritual life, while nearby Tegallalang reveals the island’s iconic terraced fields carved carefully into the hills. The area moves at an easy pace, where mornings begin with offerings at temple gates and farmers tending their land as mist lifts slowly from the valley.

A short drive north brings you into the cooler highlands of Kintamani, where Mount Batur rises above the caldera beside the calm waters of Lake Batur. Here, sunrise over the volcano has long been one of Bali’s most legendary sights, with soft light spreading across the crater and lake below. From waterfalls hidden in nearby forests to the cultural centre of Ubud within easy reach, Sebatu offers a quiet base to explore Bali’s nature, temples, and traditions while returning each day to the calm of the valley.
